Recently we rescued a puppy. We named her Luna. It works because we are huge “Harry Potter” fans and because it is short for Luna-tic. The day we brought her home, you could see every single one of her ribs. She was so skinny and shy. Neither one of those conditions lasted long. She put 10lbs on right away and introduced us to something call an “aggressive chewer”. She wasn’t shy any more. No, she became a holy terror for every stuffed toy we gave her. It became her sole purpose to rip off the arms and legs and remove all the stuffing.
At first, being a crafty person, I tried to sew the poor little things back together. Each one of her stuffed toys came in and out of the Luna Toy Hospital on a daily basis. I started to realize if I didn’t find something else for her I would spend all my time performing surgery on her stuffed toys.
I knew I needed something that would allow her to “destroy”, and yet be designed to go back together. I thought to myself “what it had a slit in the side?”. This will allow me to put something in there and for her to take it out (thus giving her the satisfaction of destroying it).
The result became that Reusable Destructible Dog Ball. I took scraps of non-fraying fabric cut them in strips and shoved them in the ball. She loved it!
Isn’t she pretty? She has had the original prototype since 1/8/22 and it is still going strong. She loves to remove the “stuffing” and loves it when I hide a treat in there too.
